MVA ACQUIRES PI VOLLEYBALL AND STARTS LAKESHORE PROGRAMMING

Michigan Volleyball Academy (MVA) is proud to announce the acquisition of lakeshore volleyball program, Pi Volleyball. Pi Volleyball will become Michigan Volleyball Academy - Lakeshore effective immediately and will operate out of the Lake Shore Athletic Complex north of Holland. Amy Matthews will join the MVA team as the Lakeshore Director. Amy brings much experience to MVA as both a player and a coach. She played Division 1 volleyball at the University of North Carolina where she was ACC player of the year. She also played professionally on the AVP Tour for 5 years. Amy has coached at all levels for over 20 years throughout the country. This joint effort will provide new and exciting opportunities to serve all athletes on the lakeshore.

MSA Director Sam Nichols says, “We are extremely excited to add Amy Matthews and her Pi Volleyball family to MVA. Amy has an excellent reputation for player development and volleyball training. Perhaps more importantly, her vision for teaching life through sport directly matches our mission here at Michigan Volleyball Academy.  We look forward to partnering with Amy and her team to build great programming for West Michigan families out of our Holland location.”

From Pi Volleyball Director and Head Coach Amy Matthews: "For nearly a decade, I have had the opportunity to first compete with, and over time find friendship with, the administrators, coaches, and staff at MVA.  As time progressed, I learned that our common values were aligned, to teach significant life values and habits through sport.  When Sam, Mayme and the team at MVA approached me with this invitation, it was an easy decision.  I am excited about the good we can collectively do to play a part in the growth and development of student-athletes in West Michigan.  I am very grateful for the many people on the Lakeshore who put in so much time and effort to make Pi Volleyball successful and I look forward to our continuing relationship.  I am extremely excited for this next chapter; a wonderful opportunity to work with MSA and MVA, to continue to develop strong, competitive players and teach life lessons through this great sport."

MSA is the home of four competitive sports programs with three state of the art facilities throughout Grand Rapids. MSA works to train athletes for the level they want to achieve. This has driven MSA to develop programming with a focus on individual skill development. Playing sports is an excellent avenue to teach moral principles and characteristics such as dedication, teamwork, discipline, self-confidence, and sportsmanship. These goals are the foundation of Michigan Sports Academies.
